With autumn around the corner, your school or organization is likely gearing up for a busy season, whether that means everyone’s back on campus or you are focused on finishing out the fiscal year with a strong Q4.
Fall is a fleeting time of pleasant weather, natural beauty and golden light that gives every photo and video a warm and inviting feel. For colleges and universities, autumn coincides with bustling campus life. Students are enjoying the outdoors. Sports and activities are in full swing, spreading energy and excitement. Don’t miss this opportunity to gather images and footage.
Did you know Allied Pixel offers a cost-effective two-day video/photography production package, available in all 50 states and internationally? It’s a great way to build your library of visual assets and freshen up your video content.
Here are suggestions for your shot list.
Campus Scenery
- Drone Footage: Aerial shots of the campus are the perfect way to capture picturesque scenery and convey an overall sense of place.
- Landscape Photography: Ground-level shots of tree-lined walkways, the quad, and iconic campus buildings can have strong visual appeal.
- New Developments: If there are new buildings or facilities, show them in their best light. Consider a video tour led by key faculty members talking about the impact of the new spaces.
Interviews and Testimonials
- Students: Scout for beautiful settings, then set up student interviews in those spots. Capturing them in cozy fall clothing will convey a sense of comfort.
- Alumni: Schedule interviews with alumni who will be coming back to campus for homecoming and other fall events.
Events and Athletics
- Open Houses: Here’s your chance to capture the excitement of prospective students and their families as they tour the campus.
- Homecoming: Reunions area rife with emotion, from the joy of seeing far-flung friends to the nostalgia evoked by revisiting a past life. Emotion is great for promotion!
- Sports: Whether varsity or club, men’s or women’s, sports are action-packed and rich with traditions. Capture athletes and fans to showcase school spirit and your vibrant campus community.
Classes and Activities
- In Classrooms: Ask faculty to alert you about days when you can shoot stills or video of lively class discussions, hands-on projects or intriguing lab work.
- Clubs and Organizations: Ask the leaders of student clubs and organizations to alert you when they will be doing something that might provide great visuals, such as a service project or a cultural festival.

Meet Media Manager Calvin Woodruff
Calvin’s mother was a photographer who instilled in him a love of storytelling through pictures and film. To this day, those pursuits bring him the most joy and keep him interested in always learning more. Before joining Allied Pixel in 2021, Calvin gained multiple skill sets from various production roles in commercial, documentary, and feature films, along with TV shows on Netflix, Hulu, and CBS.
His role as Media Manager on the Personalized Video team taps all his skills in surprising ways. Even better, the growing demand for Personalized Video provides him with frequent opportunities to learn more as Allied Pixel renews and refines its tech-forward approach.
When Calvin needs a break, he goes camping with friends, sometimes in the wild areas not far from his Los Angeles home, sometimes on long trips across the country to visit National Parks. His favorite experience was arriving in the dark to a campsite at Yellowstone and “waking up in complete and total shock and awe” at the scenery.
